U2 perform five nights in a row on ‘Letterman’

Because Bono and company don’t understand the concept of overkill, U2 will follow up its high profile gigs at the presidential inauguration and the Grammys with an unprecedented five nights of performances on the Late Show With David Letterman March 2-6. The gig coincides with the the release of the band’s 114th album No Line On The Horizon.

U2 isn’t the first rock ‘n’ roll group to act as house band for a late night television show. Remember back in 2003 when the White Stripes played four nights on Late Night With Conan O’ Brien?

Fittingly, the blues punk duo will come out of hibernation on March 2 to play Conan’s last show before he heads out to Los Angeles to take the reins at The Tonight Show.

So, here’s the question: on March 2, do you watch U2 or the White Stripes? Or neither?

More older celebrities nurturing youngsters

Not to be outdone by Stephen King and Faye Dunaway, aging blues singer Etta James also has mean things to say about younger celebrities — including the president! But her real issues are with “that woman” Beyonce.

While performing at a recent concert, James said of President Obama and Beyonce, who portrays James in Cadillac Records and has usurped James’ classic “At Last” for herself:

You guys know your president, right? You know the one with the big ears? Wait a minute, he ain’t my president, he might be yours, he ain’t my president. You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song — she’s gonna get her ass whipped. The great Beyoncé … But I can’t stand Beyoncé. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol’ president day … singing my song that I’ve been singing forever.”

Clearly the thing for Miss Etta to do would be to grab some of Beyonce’s hits – “Single Ladies,” for example – and sing the mess out of them. Can you imagine?

These inter-generational celebrity feuds are getting fun. Who will be next to dis the younger generation? Or will someone find their way to the freaking high road?

The Inauguration in Legos!

My friend Mindy sent this my way, it’s model builder Gary McIntire‘s amazingly detailed (if not exactly accurate because he did it last week) Lego version of today’s inauguration of Barack Obama.
