Who won the debate?

No, seriously, I need you to tell me. I missed the whole thing because I was reviewing the Black Kids concert in D.C. (See my review in VenusZine.)

Who won last night?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Do the Black Kids suck or not?

As a former Floridian, I’m really rooting for the Black Kids, the band from Jacksonville, Florida that took the blogosphere by storm with its first EP, The Wizard of Ahhhs. Richard Butler, ex-Suede leader, took the band under his wing for its debut Partie Traumatic, which has garnered mixed reviews. (Popular music site Pitchfork famously gave the album the most negative review it could think of, a picture of pugs. Not sure why pugs connote negativity, but the prank was an internet sensation.)

The problem is, I read all the time on hipster music blogs that the five-piece is horrible live. That Butler and his people mixed a great album, but the kids lack the chops. I get the chance to find out next month at the Black Cat in Washington DC when I review the the Kids for Venuszine.com. I’ll let you know what I learn.

For now, let’s enjoy the video for the band’s infectious first single, “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You”:

Have you seen the Black Kids live? Were they any good?
