Jack Kerouac’s house in St. Petersburg, Florida

Here’s a picture of birthday boy Jack Kerouac‘s house at 5169 10th Street N. in St. Petersburg, Florida:

This is the house where Jack spent his final days, drunk and watching The Beverly Hillbillies, until he died at age 47.

Who among us have rung the doorbell? I have.

  1. The Beverly Hillbillies, especially the black and white episodes, were a brilliant sociological study of American life and culture in the 1960’s. Two of the series episodes, “The Giant Jackrabbit” & “The Girl From Home” were the 34th & 45th highest rated network primetime telecasts of all time, each generated an audience of more than 40% of all American television households. There are much worse ways to go than drunk off your ass and laughing at the Hillbillies.

He went out like his hero Charlie Parker who was stoned and had heart failure while laughing at some clowns on tv, very Buddha like. Kevin

  5. We used to call the number. It was still listed in the phone book up until just a few years ago. He wasn’t ever home.

I wonder who is still around that knew him personally? The Flamingo Bar was an old haunt. I need to find out where else…
