Do you know about BAAMO?
If you live anywhere near Tampa Bay (and, really, even if you don’t), you need to know about BAAMO, the Bay Area Arts and Music Organization.
For many years now, a small, dedicated group of music lovers in the Tampa Bay area (and one in Washington, DC!) have worked to promote the amazingly talented bands of the area. The group’s one major annual event is its Florida Bandango, a raucous party held each spring in Austin, Texas. It’s an unofficial South By Southwest (SXSW) showcase — featuring much food and drink — held at Yard Dog, a great little shop o’ art and music that features work by many musicians on the Bloodshot Records label.
This year’s Bandango line-up features some of my favorite Tampa Bay area musicians including the amazing Rebekah Pulley:
Each year BAAMO also produces a diverse CD anthology of recent tunes by the Bay area’s most talented. I’m proud to be affiliated with BAAMO because it represents that community spirit that makes the Tampa Bay area’s music scene so special.
On Friday, February 13th, BAAMO is hosting its first fundraiser to get this year’s bands to Austin. Learn more about the party and the bands here.
