Gina Vivinetto’s Greatest Hits

Project Bueller

Have you guys heard about Project Bueller?

Some crazy mofos in Greenwich Village are gonna try on Halloween to recreate the famous parade scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (Except: wasn’t that scene set in Chicago?) The organizers expect “tens of thousands of people breaking out into the world’s largest Beatles sing-a-long.” (That would be “Twist and Shout.”) I wonder if New York resident Matthew Broderick will show up for the festivities.

  1. I don’t care for the idea. I dislike that parade anyway – year after year it’s people in boring, store-bought costumes (the first time I went, there were 9,000 Austin Powers wannabes). Not Halloween. Halloween is supposed to be scary – not “slutty nurse” and “slutty cat” and “slutty undead nurse” and “Elvis.” This whole Ferris Bueller thing – that’s the dumbest scene in that movie anyway. Who’d want to recreate that when they could recreate Jennifer Grey kicking Jeffrey Jones’ face in?

Haha.. that would be a better scene to reenact. That’s sad that the Village parade is so trite now. I bet it was once great. Like back in the 1970s and 80s.

  3. “I heard that you were feeling ill! Headache, fever, and a chill! I came to help restore your pluck, cuz I’m the nurse who likes to…”

  4. But wasn’t everything “once great” back in the ’70s-’80s? 🙂

I’m with you, this staging seems oddly out of context if it’s not in Chicago. During Von Stuben Day, ideally.

Gina, you may or may not remember me from the St. Pete Times, about a million years ago…
