The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. Boy, was it good. Now I wanna see the movie starring Humphrey Bogart as hardboiled detective Sam Spade.

I seen the movie in a 1912 movie theatre in Austin Tx, called the Paramount, I highly recommend it with a glass of burgundy brew, Lorre is creepy, and Bogie has all the great lines.
